The pot bearing consists of cylindrical Pot, a non-reinforced elastomeric pad which is confined inside the POT, A Piston which is attached to the top of the bearing plate to transfer the load from the bridge deck to the elastomeric pad and a seal to minimize or prevent the elastomeric pad from slipping out of the POT. Since the elastomeric pad is confined within a metallic cylinder, it provides a load carrying medium at the same time providing the bearing with a multidirectional rotational capacity. As such, Pot bearings do not allow any translation movement. In order to permit translational movement in addition to rotation, plain sliding arrangement is provided over the top plate of pot bearing. PTFE in combination with stainless steel is used to design this sliding arrangement. These are commonly referred to as POT cum PTFE Bearings. Hevea has been approved by RDSO for the fabrication and supply of POT / POT-PTFE Bearings for Indian Railways.
